Commercial transparency
Affiliate disclosure
UK Software Stack may earn commission from some software links. Commercial relationships do not determine the answer to a software decision.
How affiliate links work
An affiliate link is a tracked link supplied by a vendor or affiliate network. If you follow one and later make a qualifying purchase, NB Media may receive commission. Not every product has an affiliate programme and not every outbound link is commercial.
How we identify them
Where a specific link is an affiliate link, we intend to identify it clearly at the point where you encounter it.
Ad – affiliate link: We may earn commission if you buy through this link.
What commission cannot buy
- a favourable comparison result;
- a recommendation to buy software that the editorial conclusion says you do not need;
- suppression of a cheaper or easier alternative;
- a recommendation to switch when staying put is the better answer.
Where commercial links appear
Product CTAs are placed after a decision has been explained. If the conclusion is “do not buy”, there may be no affiliate CTA at all. We may instead link to a free how-to or an optional implementation guide where that is useful.
UK advertising rules
The UK Advertising Standards Authority and Committee of Advertising Practice require affiliate marketing to be obviously identifiable. See the ASA/CAP affiliate-marketing guidance.
