Salesforce vs HubSpot: which fits a small business?

Both now offer entry points for very small teams. The useful decision is how much CRM structure, automation and platform depth you genuinely need — not which brand is bigger.

Quick answer

Start with the smallest CRM that reliably fixes the sales problem.

Lean toward HubSpot if…

you want a low-friction CRM starting point with sales, marketing and service tools that can be adopted gradually.

Lean toward Salesforce if…

you already know you need the Salesforce ecosystem, deeper customisation/automation as you grow, or a route into its broader platform.

Need only basic lead tracking?

Test the free entry level first. HubSpot Free and Salesforce Free Suite both currently support up to two users.

The decision

Complexity should be earned.

Small-business paid entryHubSpot offers Starter and higher tiers; exact pricing varies by currency/billing and can change.Salesforce UK currently lists Starter Suite from £20/user/month and Pro Suite from £80/user/month, with different billing/contract terms.
Platform directionUseful when you want CRM plus HubSpot's connected marketing, service and content ecosystem.Useful when Salesforce's customisation, automation and broader platform/AppExchange path are material requirements.

What to do instead

If you do not yet need a CRM, use a shared lead list and a reliable next-action system.

That is cheaper, easier and often sufficient while one person can see the whole pipeline and follow-ups are not being missed.

Switching

Migration needs a destination problem to solve.

Do not move from HubSpot to Salesforce, or Salesforce to HubSpot, because the other platform looks more capable in isolation. Define the specific limitation in the current CRM, confirm the destination fixes it, then include data migration, integrations, retraining and reporting rebuilds in the cost.
